Have you ever wanted to just throw in the towel and quit? Maybe it was something you thought you would enjoy, but didn’t. Or, maybe it was something you wanted to do or had to do but it was just so HARD that it felt almost impossible? As a former cancer caregiver, the hardest thing I have ever done physically, emotionally and spiritually, was walking alongside my Mom on her five year brain cancer journey. Of course, my role as caregiver paled in comparison to what she personally faced as the patient. But, if I’m honest, there were many days I was not sure how we were going to make it through to see another day! Watching someone battle brain cancer will bring you to your knees in a hurry! Bible verses about not giving up, became our life lines. These verses spoke life and truth into the bone crushing HARD places and helped us persevere when we did not know if we could endure.
Clinging to the Lord and Bible Verses About Not Giving Up
When my Mom was diagnosed with brain cancer on January 26, 2014, our world was turned upside down. Everything was out of whack, nothing made sense and life suddenly felt impossible.
At the moment of diagnosis, we had a choice. We could wait for death and crumble under a very grim and daunting prognosis. Or, we could choose to FIGHT and put our HOPE in the Lord and cling to him and his promises.
As a family, we decided giving up was NOT AN OPTION!
However, claiming it and living it out daily are two totally different things!
Professing our steadfastness was one thing but walking it out each and every day would prove to be more challenging.
I love Jesus and I believe His word is true. But, I would be lying if I told you I never doubted the Lord, His goodness or His plan when my Mom was suffering and fighting for her life.
Some days were so hard to watch. I felt helpless, beat up and torn down. I desperately wanted to “fix” our circumstances.
Fortunately, it was not mine to fix. Our days rested in the MOST capable hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Brain cancer certainly felt like our Goliath.
It threatened to steal our hope, hijack our joy and taunted us to give up so many times. But, no matter how challenging things felt or how weary we were, the Lord was faithful. He held us tightly and carried us through our circumstances, moment by moment.
If left to our own strength, we never would have made it past day one post diagnosis.
I don’t know what kind of circumstances you are facing today, but one thing I know for sure is that the Lord will fight for you and his promises are TRUE.
Trust me, I know what it feels like to be in the trenches of HARD and heartache but I also know the comfort, peace and encouragement I received from Scripture and the bible verses about not giving up!
If you or someone you love is up against something bigger than yourself, please know that you aren’t fighting alone.
I know cancer and caregiving can feel too heavy to bare but remember, the Lord never expected you to carry it.
I encourage you to pick up your bible or your phone and find these bible verses about not giving up!
Write them down…
Memorize them…
Carry them with you wherever you go…
Hide these precious truths in your heart so on the days when you feel like giving up, you are reminded that no matter how hard or how big the battle, the Lord is bigger, stronger and already VICTORIOUS!

Prayer For the Caregiver When You Feel Like Giving Up
Heavenly Father, please use these bible verses about not giving up to speak life and truth into the dark and defeated places.
Lord, we know that we cannot fight this battle on our own. We need you to go before us and prepare the way. You are all knowing, all powerful and you have promised to never leave us or forsake us. We need you now.
Please fill us with your precious Holy Spirit. Overwhelm us with your presence and help us walk each moment of this journey rooted in your Truth.
Father, we are feeble and frail on our own. We cannot do anything apart from you. We ask that you help our unbelief, strengthen our hearts, refresh our spirits and renew our minds for the day ahead.
Keep our eyes focused on you alone and not our circumstances. Help us to put one foot in front of the other and to keep going until the moment that you tell us our work is complete.
We ask all these things in Jesus’ most holy and powerful name, Amen.
Colossians 3:23-24 is a much-needed reminder. And this statement you made is certainly true: “the Lord never expected you to carry it.” We often feel like we must carry burdens alone.
I’m so glad you found a blessing within this post!
This is timely for me. I am sharing with my mom as she is the caregiver for my dear Dad who is living with dementia. Thank you so much!
I pray it will be a blessing to her. There are several other posts on my site that are helpful for caregivers and I hope your Mom can find them to be helpful or maybe it would give her something to connect with. My Pray and Pedal On Facebook Page is a great community with many caregivers in it and I would love to be able to support and encourage her if she is on social media.
